Caloric restriction (CR) has been proposed as a nutritional strategy to combat chronic diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases, as well as to delay aging. However, despite the benefits of CR, questions remain about its underlying mechanisms and cellular and molecular targets.Objective: As inflammatory processes are the basis or accompany chronic diseases and aging, we investigated the protective role of CR in the event of an acute inflammatory stimulus.Methods: Peripheral inflammatory and metabolic parameters were evaluated in Wistar rats following CR and/or acute lipopolysaccharide (LPS) administration, as well as glial changes (microglia and astrocytes), in two regions of the brain (hippocampus and hypothalamus) involved in the inflammatory response. We used a protocol of 30% CR, for 4 or 8 weeks. Serum and brain parameters were analyzed by biochemical or immunological assays.Results: Benefits of CR were observed during the inflammatory challenge, where the partial reduction of serum interleukin-6, mediated by CR, attenuated the systemic response. In the central nervous system (CNS), specifically in the hippocampus, CR attenuated the response to the LPS, as evaluated by tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) levels. Furthermore, in the hippocampus, CR increased the glutathione (GSH) levels, resulting in a better antioxidant response.Discussion: This study contributes to the understanding of the effects of CR, particularly in the CNS, and expands knowledge about glial cells, emphasizing their importance in neuroprotection strategies.

In the food industry, the microencapsulation process is important to control the release of active encapsulated ingredients, mask unwanted flavors, colors, and unpleasant smells, increase shelf life, and protect encapsulated components from light, moisture, and nutritional loss. In this process, microspheres are formed using cross-linked polymer, which can incorporate aqueous or oily ingredients, using simple physicochemical methods of phase separation by coacervation, without the need for organic solvents. In this context, this study aimed to develop bioactive, functional frozen yogurt through the incorporation of microspheres loaded with ascorbic acid or omega 3. The process used resulted in small microspheres (15-80 µm), imperceptible to the palate, and capable of swelling about 14 times, being suitable for incorporating omega 3, without altering the swelling, and extending the shelf life of the ascorbic acid for 6 weeks, even in an acid medium. Also, the matrix does not affect the properties of frozen yogurt and acts as a stabilizer, contributing to reduce the melting rate. The sensory analysis proved that encapsulation was promising to mask the taste and odor of omega 3 and to protect the ascorbic acid, without altering the properties and quality of the frozen product.

There is limited knowledge regarding the blockade of cysteinyl leukotriene receptors (CysLTRs) and their effects in teleost fish. The present study investigated the effects of Zafirlukast, antagonist of CysLTR1 receptor, on the foreign body inflammatory reaction in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Zafirlukast-treated tilapia demonstrated a decrease in the formation of multinucleated foreign body giant cells and Langhans cells on the round glass coverslips implanted in the subcutaneous tissue, along with a significant reduction in white blood cell counts and decreased production of reactive oxygen species. There was an increase in serum levels of α2-macroglobulins, as well as a decrease in ceruloplasmin and haptoglobin. Zafirlukast treatment led to a significant decrease in the area of splenic melanomacrophage centers and a reduction in the presence of lipofuscin. These findings highlight the potential anti-inflammatory effects of zafirlukast treatment in tilapia and indicate its action on CysLTR1 receptor, modulating the innate immune response of tilapia during the foreign body reaction. The comprehension of chronic inflammation mechanisms in fish has become increasingly relevant, especially concerning the utilization of biomaterials for vaccine and drug delivery.

S100B, a homodimeric Ca2+-binding protein, is produced and secreted by astrocytes, and its extracellular levels have been used as a glial marker in brain damage and neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases; however, its mechanism of secretion is elusive. We used primary astrocyte cultures and calcium measurements from real-time fluorescence microscopy to investigate the role of intracellular calcium in S100B secretion. In addition, the dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) effect on S100B was investigated in vitro and in vivo using Wistar rats. We found that DMSO, a widely used vehicle in biological assays, is a powerful S100B secretagogue, which caused a biphasic response of Ca2+ mobilization. Our data show that astroglial S100B secretion is triggered by the increase in intracellular Ca2+ and indicate that this increase is due to Ca2+ mobilization from the endoplasmic reticulum. Also, blocking plasma membrane Ca2+ channels involved in the Ca2+ replenishment of internal stores decreased S100B secretion. The DMSO-induced S100B secretion was confirmed in vivo and in ex vivo hippocampal slices. Our data support a nonclassic vesicular export of S100B modulated by Ca2+, and the results might contribute to understanding the mechanism underlying the astroglial release of S100B.

The Amazon rainforest encompasses one of the largest biodiversities of the world and is home to a wide variety of food and therapeutic plants. Due to the diversity of components, the fruits of the Amazon biome possess essential physicochemical, nutritional, and pharmacological properties, strengthening the idea that fruit consumption may provide benefits to human health. Thus, the objective of this study was to investigate the current scenario of the use of Amazonian fruits on the development of food, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, or cosmetic products through the study of filed patents. A prospecting strategy conducted focusing on patents was used to investigate the application of the following fruits: Euterpe oleracea, Oenocarpus bacaba, Caryocar brasiliense, Garcinia gardneriana, Nephelium lappaceum, and Astrocaryum vulgare. A total of 264 patent documents were found. In 2016, a peak of 33 applications was reached, followed by a peak in 2019 with 32 applications. The study is distributed in three main application areas: cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and food. The Asian continent was the region with the world leadership in this theme, followed by Brazil. Thus, technological prospection studies can foster investments in translational research to elucidate the effects and properties of Amazonian fruits, which can generate sustainable development of new products with industrial potential.

S100B is a 21-kDa protein that is produced and secreted by astrocytes and widely used as a marker of brain injury in clinical and experimental studies. The majority of these studies are based on measurements in blood serum, assuming an associated increase in cerebrospinal fluid and a rupture of the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Moreover, extracerebral sources of S100B are often underestimated. Herein, we will review these interpretations and discuss the routes by which S100B, produced by astrocytes, reaches the circulatory system. We discuss the concept of S100B as an alarmin and its dual activity as an inflammatory and neurotrophic molecule. Furthermore, we emphasize the lack of data supporting the idea that S100B acts as a marker of BBB rupture, and the need to include the glymphatic system in the interpretations of serum changes of S100B. The review is also dedicated to valorizing extracerebral sources of S100B, particularly adipocytes. Furthermore, S100B per se may have direct and indirect modulating roles in brain barriers: on the tight junctions that regulate paracellular transport; on the expression of its receptor, RAGE, which is involved in transcellular protein transport; and on aquaporin-4, a key protein in the glymphatic system that is responsible for the clearance of extracellular proteins from the central nervous system. We hope that the data on S100B, discussed here, will be useful and that it will translate into further health benefits in medical practice.

Microencapsulating phenolic compounds and anthocyanins from grape pomace, a by-product of the food industry, is attractive because of the many beneficial health effects associated with these compounds. At first, we evaluated the cultivar BRS Violeta using microencapsulation, indicating the degree of innovation in the present research. This study aims to microencapsulate grape pomace extract in a combination of maltodextrin and xanthan gum via lyophilization, and determine the protective effect of this microcapsule on the phenolic compounds and anthocyanins. Thus, the microcapsule stability was determined over 120 days, under different temperature conditions (4 and 25 °C) and in the presence or absence of light. Additionally, a gelatin application test was performed to investigate the effect of the microcapsule on color stability. When comparing the extract versus microcapsules, the microcapsule results were better both for total anthocyanins (1.69 to 1.54-fold) and total phenolic compounds (3.06 to 1.74-fold), indicating a longer half-life after encapsulation. The microcapsule application in gelatin demonstrated that the encapsulating matrix retained the color for 30 days. Thus, the encapsulation method can be recommended to preserve the bioactive compounds and the coloration in food products such as gelatin.

PURPOSE: To develop a new instrument to identify barriers to self-administered home-based task-oriented practice post-stroke and test its content validity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The sample consisted of individuals with stroke and neurological rehabilitation professionals. The study consisted of two steps: (1) Instrument development, involving three processes; a data search in the literature, interviews with the target population and an open questionnaire (online) sent to professionals; and (2) Testing the content validity of the instrument by asking individuals with stroke and professionals about the comprehensiveness and relevance of the items and additionally asking individuals with stroke about the comprehensibility of the items. For each item in the instrument, the threshold validity scores were ≥0.80 in the Content Validity Index and ≥0.75 for the Kappa agreement. RESULTS: The preliminary version was developed with 46 items. The content validation was performed in three rounds. The last version of the instrument Barriers to self-administered home-based task-oriented practice post-stroke (BASH-TOP-Stroke) contained 34 items in five response categories, in which the higher the value presented, the greater the number of barriers. The content validity for the items was excellent. CONCLUSIONS: The study provides a new instrument to help identify barriers to self-administered home-based task-oriented practice post-stroke.


Barriers to self-administered task-oriented home-based exercises can be specific to this form of practice.Understanding barriers to self-administered task-oriented home-based exercises is essential to increase the amount of practice for optimizing motor recovery.The Barriers to self-administered home-based task-oriented practice post-stroke (BASH-TOP-Stroke) questionnaire was developed to evaluate barriers to self-administered task-oriented home-based exercises in individuals post-stroke.BASH-TOP-Stroke has excellent content validity based on patients and professionals and could help to identify strategies that may reduce barriers to self-administered home-based task-oriented practice after stroke.

Transcription factors (TFs) activate enhancers to drive cell-specific gene programs in response to signals, but our understanding of enhancer assembly during signaling events is incomplete. Here, we show that androgen receptor (AR) forms condensates through multivalent interactions mediated by its N-terminal intrinsically disordered region (IDR) to orchestrate enhancer assembly in response to androgen signaling. AR IDR can be substituted by IDRs from selective proteins for AR condensation capacity and its function on enhancers. Expansion of the poly(Q) track within AR IDR results in a higher AR condensation propensity as measured by multiple methods, including live-cell single-molecule microscopy. Either weakening or strengthening AR condensation propensity impairs its heterotypic multivalent interactions with other enhancer components and diminishes its transcriptional activity. Our work reveals the requirement of an optimal level of AR condensation in mediating enhancer assembly and suggests that alteration of the fine-tuned multivalent IDR-IDR interactions might underlie AR-related human pathologies.

INTRODUCTION: Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) have been described as structures composed of DNA and proteins, such as elastase and myeloperoxidase, that are able to kill bacteria extracellularly. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the role of NETs in bone resorption observed in pulp infection-induced apical periodontitis in mice. METHODS: Apical periodontitis was experimentally induced by exposing the dental pulp of the mandibular first molar of mice to the oral microenvironment. The expression of NETs was evaluated by immunofluorescence in mice and biopsies of apical periodontitis. Mice were treated with vehicle or DNase I to degrade NETs, and the samples were collected after 7 days. The size of the apical lesion and the osteoclast number were determined in hematoxylin-eosin- and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-stained sections, respectively. Osteoclast differentiation and function markers were evaluated by quantitative polymerase chain reaction. The level of NETs in the serum was determined by the myeloperoxidase-DNA PicoGreen assay. RESULTS: We first confirmed the presence of neutrophils and NETs at the site of the lesion in mice and in biopsies of patients with apical periodontitis. The treatment of mice with DNase I reduced the level of NETs in the serum and led to a reduction in apical lesion size and alveolar bone resorption. This effect was associated with a reduction of local inflammatory infiltrate and a reduced number of osteoclasts. We found that the increased expression of Acp5, Ctsk, and Rankl genes associated with osteoclast formation and function were abrogated by the absence of NETs. CONCLUSIONS: Our data highlight NETs as an important player in the pathogenesis of apical periodontitis with regard to the local inflammation and consequent bone resorption after pulp infection.

Ultrasonication is one of the non-thermal physical methods that can be used on foods and when used in synergy with temperature (thermosonication), this technique proves to be more effective, thus reducing the duration and intensity of heat treatment and the consequent damage to the foods. This work aimed to use the technique of ultrasonication and thermosonication in the processing of jalapeno pepper sauces in comparison with pasteurization. Two types of sauces were produced, one with pre-cooking (a) and the other without cooking (b), and the influence of time and temperature was analyzed by applying ultrasonication and thermosonication. Times of 15 and 30 min and temperatures of 25 and 65 °C were used. Both treatments stood out for their effectiveness when compared to the traditional method (pasteurization 65 °C and 30 min). The results demonstrate that, in general, the sauces are good sources of phenolic compounds (141.83 ± 0.10 mg gallic acid equivalent/100 g), flavonoids (50.40 ± 0.30 mg quercetin equivalent/100 g) and carotenoids (2.39 ± 0.07 mg ß-carotene/100 g). The sauces had an increase in carotenoids by about 25% (thermosonicated at 15 and 30 min and pre-cooked) and in antioxidant activity (ferric reducing antioxidant power) with about 12% and 13% (thermosonicated at 30 min with and without cooking, respectively) in relation to control (pasteurization). On comparing thermosonication with ultrasound process total phenolics had improved by around 14% and flavonoids by 55%. At the first time, capsantin, capsaicin, dihydrocapsaicin, and nordihydrocapsaicin were identified by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-MS/MS (UHPLC-MS/MS). Finally, as both treatments demonstrate efficiency (thermosonication at 15 and 30 min), the use of 15 min is indicated as feasible by the reduced process time and in preventing the loss of bioactive compounds in the sauces when compared to the pasteurization treatment.

Identifying sources is crucial for proposing effective actions to combat marine litter pollution. Here, we used an innovative approach to identify hotspots of mismanaged plastic waste (MPW) within Brazil and subsequent leakage to the ocean, based on population density, socio-economic conditions, municipal solid waste management and environmental parameters. We estimated plastic waste generation and MPW for each of the 5570 Brazilian municipalities, which totaled 3.44 million metric tons per year. Then, we estimated the probability of litter mobilization and transport (P) and the relative risk of leakage to the ocean (MPW × P). The Guanabara Bay and La Plata River comprised the main oceanic entry hotspots of litter produced in Brazil. The use of national databases allowed us to increase spatial and temporal granularity, offering a detailed baseline for the application of prevention and mitigation actions. However, overcoming data limitations is still a challenge in Brazil as in other Global South countries.

Salmonella represents one of the most common foodborne pathogens, frequently associated with the contamination of poultry products, constituting a prominent worldwide public health concern. This study determined the prevalence and antimicrobial resistance of Salmonella spp. in chilled chicken meat (115 samples) commercialized at retail in the Federal District, Brazil. Microbiological tests were performed to screen for Salmonella spp. in the chicken meat samples, and the isolated strains were confirmed by the invA gene presence (PCR technique). The strains were evaluated for antimicrobial susceptibility by the disk diffusion technique (Kirby-Bauer method) and tested for the presence of the sul2, blaCTX, and tetB antimicrobial resistance genes. The Salmonella spp. prevalence in chilled chicken meat sold at retail in the Federal District, Brazil, was 46.1% (53 of 115 chicken meat samples analyzed had invA gene-positive strains). Seventy-eight strains of Salmonella spp. isolated from the 53 contaminated samples showed higher resistance to amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (83.3%), followed by sulfonamide (64.1%) and tetracycline (46.2%); 53.8% of the isolates were multidrug-resistant (MDR). The sul2 gene that confers resistance to sulfonamide was found in 53 strains (68.0%), the blaCTX gene that confers resistance to beta-lactams was identified in 39 strains (50.0%), and the tetB gene that confers resistance to tetracycline was identified in 29 strains (37.2%). The high percentage of Salmonella contamination in chicken meat can pose a risk to consumers' health due to the possibility of causing salmonellosis. In addition, many isolates were MDR and carried antimicrobial resistance genes. Public agencies can use these results to develop effective public health policies and strategies to ensure the safety of these food products.

The effect of daily ingestion of polypropylene microplastic on the health of tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, was evaluated. 60 fish (± 200 g) were placed in 6 aquariums (n = 10, 100 L each), constituting the following treatments: Control (without the addition of polymer), fed with 100 and 500 µg of polypropylene/kg of body weight (b.w.), respectively. After 30 days of feeding, the animals were submitted to blood collection for hemogram and biochemical study and later euthanized for gut microbiological analysis, somatic index of liver, spleen, heart, kidney, stomach, and intestine. In the serum biochemical study, an increase in cholesterol and serum Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) activity levels was observed in animals treated with 500 µg of polypropylene. Tilapia-fed polypropylene in the diet showed an increase in thrombocyte and total leukocyte counts, marked by a significant increase in the number of circulating lymphocytes. The results of the somatic study revealed a significant increase in the stomach, liver, and heart of tilapia fed with the polymer. Increase in the number of Gram-negative microorganisms and decrease in mesophilic aerobic microorganisms were observed in the gut of fish exposed to the polymer, including a dose-response effect was observed for these analyses. Therefore, tilapias fed daily with diets containing polypropylene for 30 consecutive days showed deleterious effects, resulting in systemic inflammatory disturbs by altering liver functions, leukocyte profile, and organ morphometry, as well as changes in the intestinal microbiota. Such results demonstrate the impairment of fish health, highlighting the need for further studies that evaluate the impact of microplastics on aquatic organisms.

Congenital and gestational syphilis are increasingly prevalent multisystemic infections in Brazil. This study aimed to present a case series of three children diagnosed with congenital syphilis even though their mother had unreactive treponemal tests. The VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory) titers of a 22-year-old mother with three pregnancies decreased after treatment. The mother did not have a reactive treponemal test, but all the three children were diagnosed with early congenital syphilis. This case series highlights the difficulty in diagnosing gestational and congenital syphilis in Brazil.

In response to the global spread of antimicrobial resistance, there is an increased demand for novel and innovative antimicrobials. Bacteriophages have been known for their potential clinical utility in lysing bacteria for almost a century. Social pressures and the concomitant introduction of antibiotics in the mid-1900s hindered the widespread adoption of these naturally occurring bactericides. Recently, however, phage therapy has re-emerged as a promising strategy for combatting antimicrobial resistance. A unique mechanism of action and cost-effective production promotes phages as an ideal solution for addressing antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections, particularly in lower- and middle-income countries. As the number of phage-related research labs worldwide continues to grow, it will be increasingly important to encourage the expansion of well-developed clinical trials, the standardization of the production and storage of phage cocktails, and the advancement of international collaboration. In this review, we discuss the history, benefits, and limitations of bacteriophage research and its current role in the setting of addressing antimicrobial resistance with a specific focus on active clinical trials and case reports of phage therapy administration.

Abstract In this study, orodispersible films formed from hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) E6 (2, 2.5, and 3%) and plasticizers ((glycerin (Gly), propylene glycol (PP), or polyethylene glycol (PEG)), containing doxazosin mesylate, were prepared by the solvent casting method and characterized. Design of experiments (DoE) was used as a statistical tool to facilitate the interpretation of the experimental data and allow the identification of optimal levels of factors for maximum formulation performance. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curves and X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) diffractograms showed doxazosin mesylate amorphization, probably due to complexation with the polymer (HPMC E6), and the glass transition temperature of the polymer was reduced by adding a plasticizer. Fourier transformed infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy results showed that the chemical structure of doxazosin mesylate was preserved when introduced into the polymer matrix, and the plasticizers, glycerin and PEG, affected the polymer matrix with high intensity. The addition of plasticizers increased the elongation at break and adhesiveness (Gly > PEG > PP), confirming the greater plasticizer effect of Gly observed in DSC and FTIR studies. Greater transparency was observed for the orodispersible films prepared using PP. The addition of citric acid as a pH modifier was fundamental for the release of doxazosin mesylate, and the desirability formulation had a release profile similar to that of the reference product

ABSTRACT Congenital and gestational syphilis are increasingly prevalent multisystemic infections in Brazil. This study aimed to present a case series of three children diagnosed with congenital syphilis even though their mother had unreactive treponemal tests. The VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory) titers of a 22-year-old mother with three pregnancies decreased after treatment. The mother did not have a reactive treponemal test, but all the three children were diagnosed with early congenital syphilis. This case series highlights the difficulty in diagnosing gestational and congenital syphilis in Brazil.

Existe uma clara lacuna na transição entre Atenção Hospitalar (AH) e Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS). A efetividade da Transição do Cuidado (TC) depende de uma excelente capacidade de comunicação entre profissionais e serviços, sendo a alta hospitalar um momento crítico. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar as percepções dos enfermeiros da Atenção Hospitalar (AH) e Atenção Primária em Saúde (APS) sobre aspectos da alta hospitalar Trata-se de um estudo transversal e quantitativo realizado com dados de enfermeiros atuantes na AH e na APS no estado de Santa Catarina. Os dados foram coletados entre dezembro de 2020 e janeiro de 2021, por meio de formulário eletrônico. Foi realizada análise descritiva e inferencial. Para comparação entre grupos utilizou-se teste de qui-quadrado de Pearson. Há algumas sobre posições nas percepções dos enfermeiros da AH e APS sobre a temática, sendo que consideram importante o acompanhamento do paciente após a alta hospitalar (54; 91,5%), entende que existe pouca e fraca comunicação entre serviços de saúde (52; 88%). Ainda, são realizadas orientações verbalmente para pacientes e familiares no momento da alta (32; 54,2%), pouca informação é compreendida pelos pacientes (47; 79,7%) e o plano de alta não é individualizado (30; 50,8%), na maioria dos casos. A comunicação é uma grande fragilidade na alta hospitalar, que se expressa nesse estudo, pela percepção dos enfermeiros de uma comunicação fraca entre AH e APS, pela fragilidade do plano de alta e orientações realizadas verbalmente. A melhoria do processo de transição do cuidado, especialmente a alta hospitalar, permite uma assistência à saúde mais integrada, segura e centrada no paciente. O investimento em estratégias que aprimorem esse processo é essencial para a qualidade do cuidado.


There is a clear gap in the transition between Hospital Care (HC) and Primary Health Care (PHC). The effectiveness of the Care Transition (TC) depends on an excellent communication ability between professionals and services, with hospital discharge being a critical moment. The objective of this study was to investigate the perceptions of HC and PHC nurses on aspects of hospital discharge. This is a cross-sectional and quantitative study carried out with data from nurses working in HC and PHC in the state of Santa Catarina. Data was collected between December 2020 and January 2021, using an electronic form. Descriptive and inferential analysis were performed. Pearson's chi-square test was used for comparison between groups. There are some overlapping positions in the perceptions of HC and PHC nurses on the subject, considering that patient follow-up after hospital discharge is important (54; 91.5%), they understand that there is little and weak communication between health services (52; 88%). Also, verbal guidelines are given to patients and family members at discharge (32; 54.2%), little information is understood by patients (47; 79.7%) and the discharge plan is not individualized (30; 50.8%), in most cases. Communication is a major weakness in hospital discharge, which is expressed in this study, by the nurses' perception of poor communication between HC and PHC, by the fragility of the discharge plan and verbally given guidelines. Improving the care transition process, especially hospital discharge, allows for more integrated, safe and patient-centered healthcare. Investment in strategies that improve this process is essential for the quality of care.

S100B is a calcium-binding protein produced and secreted by astrocytes in response to various extracellular stimuli. C6 glioma cells are a lineage commonly employed for astroglial studies due to the expression of astrocyte specific markers and behavior. However, in high-glucose medium, C6 S100B secretion increases, in contrast to the trend in primary astrocyte cultures. Additionally, S100B secretion decreases due to fluorocitrate (FC), a Krebs cycle inhibitor, highlighting a connection between S100B and metabolism. Herein, we investigate the impact of FC on S100B secretion in primary astrocyte cultures, acute hippocampal slices and C6 glioma cells, as well as lactate mediation. Our results demonstrated that C6 responded similarly to astrocytes in various parameters, despite the decrease in S100B secretion, which was inversely observed in astrocytes and slices. Furthermore, FC inversely altered extracellular lactate in both models, suggesting a role for lactate in S100B secretion. This was reinforced by a decrease in S100B secretion in hippocampal slices treated with lactate and its agonist, but not in C6 cells, despite HCAR1 expression. Our findings indicate that extracellular lactate mediates the decrease in S100B secretion in astrocytes exposed to FC. They also emphasize the differences in C6 glioma cells regarding energetic metabolism. The proposed mechanism via HCAR1 provides further compelling evidence of the relationship between S100B and glucose metabolism.
